I started on Twitter in 2016, but I was resisting during the Bush/Cheney era, mostly online, and I truly didn’t know what I was doing.
In 2016, I truly felt a disturbance in The Force, no kidding around. I knew that we were in danger as a nation if Trump became President, and I knew that I couldn’t resist alone. I needed help. I began on Twitter, where I met @captainslogAz and the original Spock, who led me toward the path of responsible resisting. As Fate would have it, a chain of events with dedicated Resisters weaved its way into the Resistance which evolved into #GeeksResist.
I am honored to have met, and continue to work with, so many amazing individuals who have helped light my way along this journey. There’s too many to name, but I want to thank every one of you.
I was born in a red state, and used to be a Republican. Try not to judge, I was in my 20’s LOL.
What happened? Bill Clinton. Plus, after some research on the Democrats, I realised that they have been responsible for most of the cultural progress in America. I suddenly realised that if the Republicans had their way, we would still be living in the Victorian Age.
To me, America has always been great. Nations, much like people, have baggage and things in their history that they are not proud of. Nations even have family members they wish they didn’t know. What makes us great is our sense of adventure and creativity, our diversity, our Unity when tragedy strikes, and our sense of hope. But mostly, the freedoms of what Democracy brings.
So why do I resist? I don’t like bullies or meanness. I believe in justice and fair play. And mostly, it’s my duty to resist tyranny and abuse of power when my country is in danger of losing the very fabric of what makes America great. I will continue to do so beyond 2020.
