When I started my Twitter account, it was called “Trump Hasn’t Tweeted”. I would simply look at Trump’s account, see how long it had been since he had tweeted, and I would tweet it out like a celebration along with some GIF, like puppies running through fields full of flowers, people popping champagne, what evs.
That was before the election happened, and I assumed, like many others, that Hillary would win. Unfortunately, that was not the case. So, I switched formats and went to @CaptainsLogAz, with the goal of being to shed light on each day’s events to spread real information across the twitterverse.
Then, a Spock appeared on Twitter (now known as @1IronMan2020), then a Scotty appeared… next thing you know, we had dozens of Star Trek characters opening anonymous accounts, working together. We had so many that we ran out of characters, and people started with Star Wars characters. Then it just went insane, with resisters starting character accounts from everything from popular movies to TV shows. I honestly didn’t know any of that would happen, but it allowed many people with sensitive jobs and other reasons to remain anonymous while voicing their distaste of the current administration.
Then, I started the resistance followback parties, which was cool until everybody started doing it, but those first parties were legendary. After that, I saw the Indivisible special on Rachel Maddow, which taught me how to resist in real life, that’s when my activism really began.
These days, I still do the tweeting thing, but I’ve also become an activist in Arizona, where I’ve learned so much about the politics scene. I’ve protested, attended many functions, started posting my pic online, and even organized a march of my own when Kavanaugh was up for SCOTUS. My life has changed a lot over the past few years. I used to be a sports writer, interviewed many Arizona Cardinals players, and went to cover the Super Bowl, but I haven’t written an article on sports in over 30 months.
I can’t wait to get back to my real life, my hobbies and passions. But even when that happens, I’ll always pay more attention to politics. I’ll always be active in my community, because like millions of others, I am forever changed. I am thankful for everybody I’ve come to know in the resistance, both online and in real life. So, that’s my story. Many thanks to @mcspocky for letting me share it. A lot of us won’t be able to make a big difference on a large scale by ourselves, but together we can change the direction Trump set us in.
Much love, y’all.
