I emigrated from San Jose, CA to London, UK, in 1982 when I married a Brit, and have lived here ever since, voting by absentee ballot. I had two daughters, earned an Honours Degree, and then a masters and PhD in neuroscience. I had a rewarding career in clinical research until 2010, when a collection of circumstances “retired” me.
Ironically, my daughter, @itswebgeekme, left the U.K. for California in 2006.
It was she who woke me, in Summer 2016, to the terrifying prospect that Donald Trump might be the GOP candidate for POTUS. We spent the next few months gaslighting each other via Twitter and FB Messenger until the night of the election, when I was delighted to spend it with her in CA. It’s just as well I was there, supervising a three-day suicide watch and celebrating CA’s legalising recreational marijuana not a moment too soon.
In March 2017, Bellatrixx2017 was born into #TheResistance. My early mission was to #FlipTheHouse, and I worked on the successful Doug Jones campaign for #ALSen. It was then I realized that there is no such thing as a completely self-contained election, and that every race has implications for the entire country. It was also clear that every tweet, retweet, meme, phone call, postcard, and doorknock was critical. Twitter didn’t flip the House single-handedly, but we made an impression.
Bella 2017 morphed into Bellatrixx2020 the day after the 2018 election. My new mission is to educate myself, and my Resister brothers and sisters, on each one of the now 16 Democratic candidates. Yes, even Bernie and Tulsi! My other interests are #GunSenseNow, #NoConCon, #healthcare, and Congressional Committees.
