November 9, 2016 was the day I had no choice but to become an activist. It was the day hate, misogyny, racism, Islamophobia, lies, and moral bankruptcy was given the highest possible platform. The highest public office in the whole nation. It was a day of disgrace, but a day average folk woke up from their sleepwalk.
I hated politics because of the corruption and toxicity. But after that dark day, it was clear as day that for evil to triumph, all it requires is for good humans to do nothing. Without us normal folk on the table of influence, it leaves a vacuum of those fringe groups to exploit this opportunity to take that seat, and in fact, the driving seat. Why? Because it is empty.
I felt Twitter was the right platform to raise my voice. This is because you can reach those in positions of influence – whether it is politicians, celebrities, or journalists. To my surprise, a vast number of people had done the same thing, and took to Twitter to vocalize their resistance to 45 and his vile administration.
This is when #TheResistance community was created, and I am proud to be a small part of it.
