I Resist because there is no other option. I am mother to four amazing, crazy, and cool AF children. Since childhood, I was a liberal feminist growing up in a republican family. I just didn’t know why I was different until I got older and learned what politics and equality were all about.
My life before trump was as a History Major, Women’s Studies & African Studies Minors, then a retail store manager, then some mom time, then a multi-departmental Director at the YMCA. I have a love and friends & family I would do anything for. I believe the world should be loving and inclusive and accepting and patient and kind. For me, every day is a personal journey to be better at those things. So is working to bring the beauty back into ALL of our lives. More often than not, with a large dose of profanity.
It is our absolute duty to fight the disaster squatting in our White House, and make this country a place we can be proud of again. Our fight won’t stop when he is out of office. He has shined a light on the ugly, and how much work we have to do. I have faith that we will continue fighting together. This magical movement has changed all of our lives. Our connections and friendships are forever. The Resistance is the silver lining to these dark times.
If I were to pinpoint my purpose in the resistance, it would be to lift spirits. Spread some joy. Remind people to have hope and resist with purpose. To ask people how they’re coping, and let them know that I’m here and I care. Sometimes the simple act of typing, “things WILL get better and we truly are a family,” is the most valuable thing to do for friends at the end of another arduous day. I’ve learned what kind of activist I want to and CAN be.
I’m somewhat physically limited, so I focus on phone calls and emails to MOC. Before midterms, I learned how to textbank, and found that I was actually good at phonebanking. My last (less successful attempt) was in college for Planned Parenthood.
Seeing the vast number of us who are chronically ill, suffer from chronic pain and still fight, is so heartening. I’m constantly inspired by others. I know at some point I will be able to work again, and I imagine I will be working with Women’s Issues.
Being human and real is important. I try to share my true self with my twitter fam. My experiences, struggles, and what gets me through the hard times. My joy and successes.
I remind others to channel anger into action, make calls every day, speak truth to power, never forget that we ARE stronger together. Remember to laugh and breathe and love and to always say sweet dreams.
Much love. RESIST
