I am getting out tax organizers, and preparing for the 2018 tax season. It is also a time of “change of the guard” in the local Irvine Democratic Party, where I am running for Treasurer for the 2019/2020 cycle, an important time for us to build and expand upon our wins. We worked hard, canvassing each week while I was DGI (Democrats of Greater Irvine) Field Director for the 2017/2018 cycle. We had a goal to flip the 45th, and our work was part of the fabric of Democrats and Progressives on the ground who succeeded in that goal. The Democratic Party of Orange County @DPOC also had a Neighborhood Organizing program to flip OC blue in the 2017/2018, which I played a role in as a Regional Lead. There, I taught people how to canvass and phone bank, and to use social media like Twitter to engage Democrats and find out what their most pressing issues were. By doing this, we were able to keep our neighbors informed about local events, and help them to consider volunteering to help us register people to vote.
We have Assembly District Delegates in our state party that make up a third of our voice in shaping the Party platform and make Party endorsements for president, and state candidates for office as our nominees.
I am running for ADD for ADEM of @CA_DEM on a slate called “The People’s Delegates” @thepeoplesdeleg. There are close to 70 people running for 14 slots (7 self-identified men, 7 self-identified women) for this January 26th election for #AD74. I believe that Democrats and Progressives are highly motivated to have a voice, and know how to go about that, which I am extremely encouraged about.
I resist because I want large corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes. I do not believe corporations are people because they have indefinite life and humans do not. I do not want our country to fall back to the times when women did not have reproductive rights. I abhor racism and the current racist Administration’s tactics of hurting people of color whether by Muslim bans, building a wall, the prison system, detention facilities, removal of voting rights, etc. I think it’s time to invest in sustainable energy and good governance oversight in protecting consumers for clean air and water. I fight for our National Parks system from being used by gas/oil companies. They are our heritage of beauty for our children. I resist
We must be compassionate in helping people suffering from the loss of their homes due to worsening climate change. To do this we must have more revenue and a return to progressive taxation by restoring the top brackets removed by TCJA and increasing those rates higher to recoup trillions in losses and deficits. When we do this, we will be able to appropriate more revenue to build the kind of country we all can be proud of, and provide the kind of oversight we need on large corporations so they don’t hurt people.
